- New research indicates Islam will become world’s most powerful religion by 2070
- The report also claims Islam is the most common state-endorsed religion globally
- According to the fresh study, some 27 states have officially endorsed Islam while only 13 have endorsed Christianity
A new study claims Islam will become the most popular religion in the world by year 2070, thus displacing Christianity from the top spot.
The research, conducted by Pew Research Centre in Washington DC, reportedly analyzed 199 countries across the world and the findings were interesting if not startling.
“From the study, it was found that some 27 governments have officially endorsed Islam, whereas only 13 countries consider Christianity as their religion,” the report reveals.
Also, out of the 199 countries that the researchers looked at, 43 were found to have some sort of an official religion; 40 had a preferred region; and a whopping 106 had no preferred region, among the United States.
In addition, the study found that 10 of the countries analyzed are intolerant to religious institutions. These include China, North Korea, Vietnam, Cuba, among other ex-Soviet republics.
The researchers also found that countries with stated-endorsed religions tend to curtail freedom of religion including restrictions of minority religious groups.
However, according to the report, most governments across the world are generally neutral when it comes to religion.
