Patience Jonathan, wife of former Nigerian president Goodluck Jonathan, has in a surprise move stopped the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, from seizing two properties traced to her.
The anti-graft agency was in court to file an ex-parte motion that would allow it seize the properties temporarily.
However, the EFCC couldn’t achieve what it aimed to do secretly, since such orders are filed without notice given to whomever it is against. It was not so in Jonathan’s case.
She however knew what the EFCC was up to, and her legal team of Ifedayo Adedipe and Mike Ozekhome, both senior advocates, determindly got Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of the Federal High Court to halt the process.
He fixed November 11 for both parties to argue for and against the ex-parte motion.
The EFCC’s counsels, Best Ojukwu and Tahir Slyvanus, left the court empty-handed.
