By Sadiq Abubakar Maiduguri Borno state Police Command has confirmed that no fewer than four persons were killed and eight others wounded as two female suicide bombers attacked a mosque in Bama local government area of Borno state yesterday.
Th is was contained in a statement issued by the Command’s PRO, DSP Edet Okon. Th e statement read in part: “At about 5.40am of today, two female suicide bombers infiltrated Ajilari area in Bama town, Bama LGA, and launched a suicide bomb attack on residents observing morning (Asuba) prayers.
They detonated the IEDs strapped to their bodies, killing themselves and two other male victims. Eight other persons were injured and were rushed to hospital for treatment.
“Th e corpses have also been evacuated. The Borno state Police Command has deployed men of the PMF and EOD personnel to render the area safe and return normalcy.
Th e Commissioner of Police, Borno state, CP Damian Chukwu, assures members of the public of the commitment of the command to safeguard lives and properties at all times.
Also reacting, the chairman of Bama Council, Baba-Shehu Gulumba, confirmed the incident, saying that four persons were killed in the early morning attack. Gulumba disclosed that two teenage suicide bombers, a male and female, infiltrated a mosque at Bama-Dina Quarters and detonated improvised explosive devices strapped to their bodies.
He explained that the incident occurred at about 5a.m., when Muslims faithful gathered for early morning prayers. Th e chairman added that the state government, in collaboration with the military, police and other security agencies, had deployed personnel and constructed trenches to fortify security in the town. “We restricted movement from 6.30 pm in the town and called on people to abide by the restriction order,” he said.
